Go-Go, Go To God

I grew up in an alcoholic home. Dad left mom and us five kids (one with fetal alcohol syndrome) when I was two. We survived on welfare. By sixteen I started branching out a little and found a crowd that I fit in with. There I was introduced to booze and other substances. By eighteen I was out of my shell. I was sick of mom and her disease, so I went out on my own. After a few petty jobs I was introduced to Go-Go dancing. I had arrived. I got paid to party ~ dance, drink and be merry. It was great money too. Life was grand for about eight years, then King alcohol started taking its toll. I got high to dance and had to dance to get high. It was a vicious cycle. Finally I found myself in the dressing room drunk off my ass and smoking crack. One day I met a guy at the bar who looked like the kind I was always attracted to. Long hair leather jacket. But as it turned out he was straight. He got me out of the hell I was in and showed me a new way of living. Although we are not together today I know he was sent by God to save me (an Angel if you will.) Today I am happily married with a sixteen year old healthy daughter. My husband and I are sober members of AA. Thanks be to God we have a simple yet beautiful life together.

I came to AA a broken down soul
With pain and fear so real

I came to AA with a big empty hole
With no ability to deal

I came to AA where I was told
Keep coming back my dear

I come to AA where God's love and grace
Truly has the power to heal
